HSC Study Hall 2023

With exams just around the corner it’s time to knuckle down and get serious about your study. Study Hall is here to help!

What you get at Study Hall

💯 7 hours of supervised study each day.
🌸 A study skills workshop to teach you how to use your time effectively.
🛋 A supportive environment to enjoy collaborative learning.
👭Well-earned study breaks where you can enjoy a variety relaxing activities like table tennis while hanging out with new friends.
🍃 Thought-provoking Christian talks and discussion groups to help you keep life in perspective.
🍔🍩 Healthy meals for lunch each day as well as tasty treats for Morning and Arvo tea. Oh, and barista coffee!
☕️ Experienced Christian leaders and tutors to assist with questions, provide essay feedback and care for all.

Why choose our study week?

💰It’s WAY cheaper than the camps around. Most study camps float around the $500-800 price range. We ask for $80 to help cover the cost of food during the week. And if that’s too much, just say so and we can work something out.
🗺️ Flexibility. While we want to help you to get the most out of your study week, we recognise that you might need to duck out for tutoring or appointments during the week, you can do that! We are here to help!

📚 Public libraries are always overrun with people during this time and it can be hard to find a study space, let alone any kind of productivity. We are capped at 40 people so that we have enough space for everyone. We will have space for quiet study, as well as space for tutoring and group study.
👬 Make friends in your area. Meet people from other schools who live on the Northern Beaches.

WHEN // 3rd - 6th Oct, 8:00am-5:30pm each day
WHERE // Narrabeen Baptist Church, 13 Grenfell Ave Nth Narrabeen ⛪️
COST // $80 for the week
INCLUDES // Heaps of study, tutoring, morning tea, lunch, arvo tea.

9-11th October Weekend Getaway
Aug

to 12 Aug

9-11th October Weekend Getaway

In Lieu of KYCK20 and our Next Gen Retreat weekends away that we would normally have in the NBC Youth calendar we are going away for a weekend in October! We have the YHA in Morning Bay (on the Pittwater) booked out for our group, 9-11th October. What a fantastic way to welcome in the warmer weather and the longer days over the Spring school holidays!

When: Friday 3pm 9/10/20 - 4pm Sunday 11/10/20

We will get the ferry from Church Point at 3:20pm on the Friday. If you are unable to make it to Church Point Wharf before 3:20pm on Friday, there are ferries leaving CP Wharf at 4:45pm, 5:30pm, 6:15pm and 7pm. $9 fee for concessions (round trip), $15 fee for adults (round trip).

Pick up will be from Church Point Wharf at 4:10pm on Sunday afternoon.

Cost: $120 per person. Accomodation, food, activities (Kayak hire, KYCK online rego, etc.). If you registered for KYCK20 and you wish to transfer your rego to this event, that option is available for you. Just let me (Daniel) know. (for those who can't afford the weekend there is sponsorship available from some generous church members)

What: The weekend will be mostly about having a good time and enjoying each others company. We will be tuning into KYCKonline sessions on the Saturday to watch KYCK talks on 1 Thessalonians with 1000s of others around Australia. We will go kayaking, swimming, play board games, sitting around chatting, laughing, campfire, etc. Sensational times.

What about COVID restrictions?

At the present moment the YHA is allowed 20 guests, meaning we can bring 20 people. The situation is being monitored and the event will be cancelled and refunded if we are unable to go due to encroaching restrictions. While we are there, we will ensure that COVID-safe practises are followed.

What if I can't come for the whole weekend?

If you're unable to come for the whole weekend we would love you to come for as much of it as you're able to come to! There will be alternative prices if you can't be there for the full weekend. But can I encourage you to try to get the weekend off from your sports and work obligations to come and enjoy your NBC family! It will cost $30 (plus ferry costs) for a day only.

NBC Youth Clothes Swap

NBC Youth Clothes Swap

Consumers spend $90 million on clothes each year, or $3500 per household.

Every 10 minutes in Australia 6000kg of fashion and textiles are thrown away.

30% of clothes purchased have not been worn for a year.

One way that we can reduce the environmental and social impacts of the fast-fashion world we live in is by reusing and recycling our old clothes! So NBC Youth is hosting a Clothes Swap!

WHEN: 7:00-9pm, Friday 22nd November

WHAT: The clothes will be available to browse from 7:00-8:00, then there will be a short presentation from Baptist World Aid about the importance of thinking ethically about our clothes and consumption.

BRING: 5-10 items to give away would be great! Please bring clothing on coat hangers, making sure items are clean and free from rips and stains. If you feel you don't have anything to swap - never fear - you will be able to buy tokens at the door.

What isn’t reused will be donated to charity.

Next Gen Retreat 2019

Next Gen 2016.jpg

We are taking a crew of NBC's next generation away to equip them to take the good news of Jesus to the world.

We think there's nothing more valuable than equpping the next generation to love and follow Jesus, so we can't wait for this weekend.

It's going to be an excellent time to get away from the hustle and bustle, hear from God, worship him together, get trained, and have some quality times with your Christian family.

We have a new venue this year as Yarandoo in Fiddletown has been sold :-(.

But fortunately we have booked a new venue that is really exciting. The YHA Pittwater in Morning Bay. We have the venue all to ourselves for the weekend and it will be a wonder place to run Next Gen. Check out this video for a look at the site.

However with a change of venue we are asking that people contribute $50 each to the cost of the weekend. This will include accomodation and food. Once you are there, there should be no extra expenses.

Once you have signed up for Weekend below, Daniel will send you the details for how to make the payment.

FAQs

Who is welcome?

Anyone who is keen to grow in their ministry skills. Those over 18 will need a WWC number too.

We are encouraging youth and young adults to be there, and it is compulsory attendance for youth and young adults who are serving at Youth and Kids Arvo.

Why skip weekend sport and other commitments for this?

Basically we think that this weekend away has proven to be so valuable in the lives and development of our young leaders. So much so that we think ti is worth giving up a weekend of sport and other commitments.

Youth Mission Month: Junior Sleepover!
Mar

to 23 Mar

Youth Mission Month: Junior Sleepover!

During Mission Month NBC Youth is hosting Friday Night Youth events that are designed to attract kids for the first time to Youth Group! Our hope is that kids will come along and find meaningful community and a chance to think about God and Jesus more deeply. And we hope they will settle into our community for the long hall!

An event we are hosting which achieves all these goals is the Junior sleepover. Giving kids a chance to grow closer to each other, spending more time together than the regular 2 hours on a Friday night. I know that for some kids (and parents) the idea of a sleepover can be a bit daunting, but I encourage you to come because it will be really valuable to feel at home in the youth community. If you’ve got concerns or questions, keep reading. If you still have concerns after reading this, feel free to contact Daniel (daniel.leach@narrabeenbaptist.org.au or 0448 326 699).

Program

6:30 arrive and put your sleeping stuff upstairs

6:45-7:15 wide game at the park across the road from NBC

7:15-8:00 sing and talk (“why bother with God?”)

8:00-9:00 games

9:00-10:30 Movie (the movie will be PG, please email Daniel if you’d like to know what it is)

10:30 Make bed and prepare for bed

11:00 Bed time

11:15 Lights out

11:15-7:00 Sleep

7:00-9:00am Breakfast & Games

If your child is unable to stay over the night for any reason, you can come and pick them up from church at 9:30pm.

Addressing Concerns

All the Youth leaders have working with children numbers, which means they are permitted by the government to work with people below 18yo. They have also participated in Safe Ministry Training called “Creating Safe Spaces” (https://creatingsafespaces.org.au), which has trained them in best practices with people under 18yo.

The kids will be monitored during the night to ensure that they do not stay up all night, or attempt to sneak out. Bed time will be enforced.

Boys and Girls will be sleeping in separate spaces during the night, and multiple youth leaders of each gender will be staying in the same spaces as their respective gender.

If you have any further concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Daniel (email: daniel.leach@narrabeenbaptist.org.au or mobile: 0448 326 699).

Thank you for partnering with us!

Daniel
